Optimized Steam Sootblowing

Upgrade your asset beyond technical specification. Sootblow more, with less steam

optimized steam sootblowing on a recovery boiler

General info

Sootblow more, with less steam

More than 90% of the cleaning by a sootblower takes place during the sootblower’s initial stroke.

When the sootblower is retracted, 50% of the steam is used unnecessarily at the same time as the soft ash is sintered into concrete-like deposits.

With HISS™ (High Impact Sootblowing System), several sootblowers can be operated in parallel with or without return steam, i.e. more sootblowing, less steam, more easily removed ash.

A case study and results from our HIISS installation on a biomass boiler at Riskullaverket. Before HISS was installed, soot blowing was employed twice per day and each soot blowing cycle meant 1 MW decrease on turbine load for 2.5 h (duration of one soot blowing cycle).
