In 2023, the Swedish power plant <\/em>J\u00f6nk\u00f6ping Energi<\/em><\/a><\/strong> initiated a project that enabled them to increase their boiler load with biofuel. The outcome of that project was a significant increase in heat and electricity production. This however significantly increased their need for sootblowing.<\/em><\/p>\n

Introduction<\/h2>\n

The project that enabled the green transition to more sustainable fuels was finished in the year of 2022. Doing an analysis of that project, J\u00f6nk\u00f6ping Energi concluded that they had increased their heat generation by 23 GWh more heat that reduced the need for more expensive fuels and 4 GWh increased electricity production.<\/p>\n

After the project that enabled the forementioned load increase, J\u00f6nk\u00f6ping discovered that even though they had to be sootblowing more as a consequence of increasing their boiler load, there was an add-on solution to their sootblowers that could save them time and steam for each cycle. The \u0e23\u0e30\u0e1a\u0e1a\u0e40\u0e1b\u0e48\u0e32\u0e40\u0e02\u0e21\u0e48\u0e32\u0e41\u0e23\u0e07\u0e01\u0e23\u0e30\u0e41\u0e17\u0e01\u0e2a\u0e39\u0e07 (High Impact Sootblowing System)\u00ae<\/sup>).<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Since 90% of the cleaning effect is done by the initial stroke of the sootblower. 50% of the sootblowing steam is wasted. This is quite a large amount, since steam sootblowing can make up to 10% of the sites total steam consumption. Because of this, HISS\u00ae<\/sup> enables the user to only sootblow in one direction while overlapping the next sootblower which also reduces the time for each cycle.<\/p>\n

Project Evaluation<\/h2>\n

Having been in discussions with Heat Management, it was determined that the solution was to have its commission during the fall of 2023. We have now finished the commissioning and the amazing preliminary results have been determined.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe preliminary result of the HISS\u00ae<\/sup> installation is a reduction of 44,8%<\/strong> sootblowing steam.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to Leif Mattson<\/strong><\/a>, project manager for Heat Management, the project has been an exemplary collaboration between Heat Management and the representatives from J\u00f6nk\u00f6ping Energi.<\/p>\n

Leif continues by saying that the presence of Heat Management\u2019s COO for HISS\u00ae<\/sup>, \u0e1e\u0e2d\u0e19\u0e15\u0e31\u0e2a \u0e25\u0e34\u0e19\u0e40\u0e14\u0e2d\u0e23\u0e4c<\/a><\/strong>, was during an important stage of the project that ensured that the customer safely could install the actuators. Which in turn contributed to that the customer felt confident during the installation. The fact that the automation programming for HISS\u00ae<\/sup> got incorporated to the customers current setup of DCS system, contributed to a familiarity with the software implementation.<\/p>\n

By operating the existing steam sootblowing system in a smarter and less wasteful way, half the steam and half the time can be saved. This leads to increased boiler efficiency, availability, and lifetime without installing any new sootblowers or rebuilding the boiler.<\/em><\/p>\n
